Thank you to everyone who participated in the Run for Girls Unite 5k! This June 6-7 race weekend was an amazing success. We appreciate the overwhelming enthusiasm and support we received. We had almost 200 participants run/walk/bike a 5K all while adhering to social distancing guidelines. There were safe-distanced high-5s and so many Girls Unite spirit photos submitted (see below).
This race successfully raised funds to help keep Girls Unite healthy during this unprecedented COVID19 pandemic. Registration fees and donations supported:
- Sustaining & growing the Girls Unite financial assistance program which covers coaching, administrative, and league expenses for players and teams without the resources to otherwise play club soccer in a high-cost city like San Francisco.
- Hiring, mentoring & licensing female head coaches and junior coaches for the Fall 2020 season: nurturing new and experienced coaches, advancing their credentials, and pushing them into next levels of leadership in soccer.
- Maintaining core Girls Unite staff to support a basic level of operation during the pandemic closures.
In addition, on behalf of Girls Unite and its community, a donation was made to Equal Justice Initiative a Black-led non-profit working to end mass incarceration, excessive punishment, and racial inequality.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this amazing community,
Girls Unite Staff & Board of Directors
