This summer we are excited to offer multiple skills sessions to Girls Unite community members (players and siblings welcome). Simone Barragan-Shaw and HannahMcCord – back from college – will be leading these sessions with Girls Unite head coaches.
Sessions include sand soccer, speed and agility, and ball mastery training. This is in addition to the team practice for some competitive teams participating in summer league.
What to expect and bring :
Beach Soccer: We play in sand socks sand socks or barefoot. The sand isn’t often hot at Ocean Beach so you can probably get away with playing barefoot. The sand socks should fit like a sock, not a shoe. You don’t want space in them otherwise they fill with sand (and that is annoying). Come in athletic clothes, hair pulled out of the face, and a big bottle of water.
Speed and agility/Track workout: NO CLEATS!!!! Wear running shoes. This will be a speed and agility workout. We will be working on changing speed and direction without a ball. We will do stairs, sprints, circuit training, etc. Dress in athletic clothes, running shoes, hair pulled away from face and a big bottle of water.
Ball Mastery: Please come with your own soccer ball with your name clearly marked on it. This will be all about individual ball skills. Working on speed with the ball, improving our first touch, shooting technique, accuracy, etc., learning to use different parts of out foot, being deceptive with moves, etc. Rec players 5th grade and younger need size 4 ball, Rec 6th and older need size 5. Comp players 2010 and younger need size 4 and 2009 and older need size 5.
We look forward to seeing you this summer!
