2020 Spring Rec Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Girls Unite is happy to offer Recreational outdoor soccer during the spring season. Please review the FAQ for Spring 2020 below. We will provide updates where needed as soon as possible.

Important deadline to be aware of is MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2019
- Online Spring Registration is required by Monday, November 18, 2019 without a Financial Assistance Request
- Financial Assistance Requests MUST be received by Monday, November 18, 2019 (see section below)

GENERAL OVERVIEW

When does spring rec season start and end?

Answer: Spring rec begins the first week of March and ends mid/late May.

 

Do I need to register my player if they played on a team in the fall?

Answer: Yes, you MUST complete a NEW registration for every season of recreational soccer.  Registration and communication updates are done using TeamSnap (our online communication platform).

 

If my child has never played soccer or never played with Girls Unite, can they play in the spring season?

Answer: Yes, please join us!  Special instructions and additional steps apply if you are new to Girls Unite.  Please email admin@girlsunite.org to learn more.

 

Where can I learn more about the spring rec league?

TEAM FORMATION

If we are already on a Girls Unite team will we stay on the same team?

Answer: We do our best to keep the same teams that played in Fall together for the Spring, however, if children join/leave the program this can affect team formation.

 

What is the team size?

Answer: Rec team size depend on the age group. Here is the breakdown (minimum – maximum number of players):

  • 2nd Grade: 10 – 13
  • 3rd Grade: 10 – 13
  • 4th Grade: 12 – 15
  • 5th Grade: 12 – 15
  • 6th Grade: 12 – 18
  • 7th/8th Grade: 12 – 18

 

Are there gender/age requirements for spring rec soccer?

Answer: All children are welcome between 2nd grade to 8th grade.

PRACTICES

Where is practice held?

Answer: To Be Determined (TBD).  Permits are processed in late January/February.  If you are returning from fall season, please note that we attempt to keep practice schedules as close to the fall season’s as much as possible.  Information will be provided via TeamSnap once it is available.

 

When is practice held?

Answer (DAYS/TIMES): TBD – Same as answer above.

 

What if my child is assigned to a team practice that conflicts with other obligations?

Answer: We do our best to accommodate families, please contact admin@girlsunite.org if you have conflicts to discuss.

GAMES

Where are games played? 

Answer: San Francisco Recreation and Parks (SFRP) soccer fields all over the city of San Francisco. Exact locations TBD.

 

When are games? 

Answer (DAYS): Games will take place on weekends, typically on Saturdays with occasional Sunday games.  Games schedules will be posted within TeamSnap for easy access.

REGISTRATION

What is the cost of spring rec & how do I register? 

Answer: Fees to play are $425 per player. Register below.

*IMPORTANT* If your child did not play will Girls Unite Fall of 2019 you must email admin@girlsunite.org in addition to completing the registration below.

Deadline to register: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2019.

Are uniforms included for spring rec season?

Answer: Uniforms are not included.  If you are a returning player, you may use last season’s uniform.  If you must order a uniform, please do so by January 1, 2020 through California Team Wear.  All other gear — shoes, ball, shin guards, etc. must be purchased by families. *Girls Unite uniforms are OPTIONAL FOR SCHOOL TEAMS; please check with your team manager.*

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Does Girls Unite offer financial assistance for Spring Rec?

Answer: Yes, in order to apply for financial assistance, you must complete the BOTH Part A & B below…

Does our family need to reapply each season? What if we have multiple kids who need assistance?

Answer: Yes, families must reapply for financial assistance each new season.  A separate request must be submitted per child.

Deadline to submit this request: Monday, November 18, 2019.

PART B: AFTER you complete the financial assistance request, our Admin Kayla (admin@girlsunite.org) will be notified and will reach out to you with a specific scholarship registration link & instructions by Monday, November 25, 2019.

Financial Assistance offers require a QUICK response on behalf of families and must be completed by Monday, December 2, 2019.
